Intended to be a weekend getaway, the dwelling sits on the fringe of the Las Vegas valley in Lee Canyon. The client desired a place that they can retreat to from the summer heat within a moments notice, but still be connected to the city.
The building's materiality matures over time and ages with grace, blending into the surrounding landscape. The weathering steel panels that wrap the entire façade are complimented with the warmth of the natural wood ceiling. Polished concrete floors offer thermal mass properties that will help in the summer as well as the winter months.
A covered veranda wraps the West and South side of the home, turning to connect the detached gym and office under an open sky space. Large spans of glass pocket doors disappear, allowing the house to completely open up and connect the inside with the outside.
